During the month of June, aftermarketNews will be presenting the esteemed 2024 Class of AMN’s Women at the Wheel. From trailblazers who have helped create departments and even entire companies, to those who ensure their office runs like a well-oiled machine, this year’s group of 26 is full of authentic leaders, each with a story to tell.
Mentorship and programming have united women throughout the aftermarket, serving as a springboard for them to enter the industry and grow their roles into successful careers. They are sparking change and driving results, together.
Today’s honoree is CJ Neville, senior director, global project and engineering management at PHINIA.
How your aftermarket career began: My career in the aftermarket first began over 15 years ago working within the energy storage market at Johnson Controls/Clarios, where aftermarket accounted for over 75% of our business.
Best advice to other women in the aftermarket: The aftermarket industry benefits immensely from diversity. We need new ideas, unique experiences and fresh perspectives to keep us pushing forward and innovating at pace. My best advice for those looking to break into the automotive aftermarket is to not be afraid to show up with your full self. It takes courage and confidence, but we need diversity, so don’t be afraid to celebrate it.
How the aftermarket can do better to support women: It is critical to set targets and actively engage younger women in more junior roles. I’d like to see the industry be more thoughtful in its hiring practices to build a strong talent pipeline. It’s also important to show up in the community – success starts with being visible. These actions might be as simple as volunteering in schools and talking to young men and women to create an equal opportunity for learning about the industry.
In tomorrow’s edition of aftermarketNews, we’ll feature Shannon O’Brien, senior director, programming and strategy, at MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers.
