Dura Automotive Founder Steps Down from Board

S.A. (Tony) Johnson has announced his retirement from the board of directors of Dura Automotive Systems, the company that he founded in 1990. Johnson said he is stepping down from Dura’s board in order to focus on other business interests. The move is effective immediately.

ArvinMeritor Reports Third Quarter Results

ArvinMeritor reported record sales of $2.4 billion and net income of $53 million, or 77 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter, which ended on June 30. These numbers compare to the prior fiscal year’s third quarter net income of $47 million, or 69 cents per diluted share. Sales increased $279 million, or 13 percent, from the prior year’s third quarter.

Tower Automotive Plant to Lose 67 Jobs

Tower Automotive said it will eliminate 67 jobs from its Bowling Green facility by moving production to a plant in Tennessee. The company will shift production of its suspension-link-arm business to Milan, Tenn., said Tower spokeswoman Bev Pierce.

Today, two manufacturer’s rep firms have announced that they will join forces. Eastman-Kosutic & Associates (EKA) and Service Sales, both headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, have merged. The two firms said that they will retain their current names for the present time.

Nominations Requested for 2004 Automotive Leader of the Year

The Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA) is seeking nominations for its 46th annual Automotive Leader of the Year Award. This prestigious award was established in 1959 to honor and recognize individual contributions to the motor vehicle aftermarket. The 2003 award was presented to Richard Morgan, president and CEO of the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance, Inc. The 2004 award will be presented on Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Opening General Session during the 2004 Annual AWDA-AAIA Business/Education Conference at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.

Today is the Deadline for AWDA One-on-One WD Registrations

Today is the official deadline for warehouse distributors (WD) participating in the AWDA-AAIA Business/Education Conference to submit one-on-one meeting requests to the AAIA/AWDA headquarters. WD meeting requests will be compiled in the coming days and preliminary schedules sent to member manufacturers along with complete conference registration materials. Manufacturers will then have until Aug. 27 to request meetings with WDs. The final, consolidated one-on-one meeting schedules will be mailed in mid-September.
