Three Join AASA Board

Three automotive aftermarket executives have joined the board of governors of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA). AASA is the aftermarket market segment association of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). New board members serving three year terms are: Kevin Baird, CEO, Qualitor Inc., Southfield, Mich.; John Casanova, senior vice president, Remy International, Anderson, Ind.; and John Casanova, senior vice president, Remy International, Anderson, Ind.

Bandag Reports Third Quarter Results

Bandag Inc. has reported consolidated net earnings of $20.1 million, or $1.02 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2004, compared to third quarter 2003 consolidated net earnings of $20 million, or $1.03 per diluted share. Consolidated net sales for the third quarter of 2004 were $236.8 million, an increase of 12 percent compared to third quarter 2003 consolidated net sales of $211.4 million. Of the sales increase, $17 million is attributable to Speedco, Bandag’s on-highway quick-service truck lubrication subsidiary, which was acquired in the first quarter of 2004.

AMS Automotive Adds Two New Regional Sales Managers

AMS Automotive, a manufacturer and distributor of manual transmission components for automotive and light/medium duty trucks, recently named two new regional sales managers. Jeff Phillips has been named the new Central regional sales manager for AMS Automotive. AMS Automotive has also announce the appointment of Gene Shaw as the northeastern regional sales manager.

Three New Members Join the Auto Pride Group

Auto Pride, the automotive division of IWD warehouse distribution group, has added three new members. Among the new members are Precision Brake and Wheel of Porterville, Calif., Discount Auto Parts of Pacoima, Calif., and Knight’s Auto Parts of Raton, NM. Founded in 1985 with 15 members, today IWD has grown into an international distribution network with more than 800 member locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Pronto Names Delphi OE Supplier of the Year

The National Pronto Association has named Delphi Corp. its 2004 Supplier of the Year for Original Equipment (OE) Products. Delphi has earned this recognition for the second consecutive year.

Stolen Bumpers Found at Venture

Law-enforcement officials last week broke up a long-running, stolen-auto-parts ring at a Michigan plant owned by bankrupt auto supplier Venture Corp.

Fed-Mogul Deal With Union Saves St. Johns Plant

A Federal-Mogul Corp. parts plant in St. Johns has been saved after workers at UAW Local 925 voted to accept a last-minute contract agreement with the Southfield-based company. Federal-Mogul had threatened to close the factory, which manufactures washers and bushings for the auto industry, and move its 470 jobs to Mexico, Argentina or China where labor costs are cheaper.

Intermet Shares to be Delisted From Nasdaq

Intermet Corp. announced that the Nasdaq will cease trading of the company’s common stock effective with the opening of business on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

NASTF to Hold Next Meeting Nov. 3 in Las Vegas

The National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 3, in conjunction with the Automotive Service Association’s Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) and Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week in Las Vegas. The meeting will be held in the Laughlin Room of the Flamingo Las Vegas from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
