During the month of June, aftermarketNews will be presenting the esteemed 2024 Class of AMN’s Women at the Wheel. From trailblazers who have helped create departments and even entire companies, to those who ensure their office runs like a well-oiled machine, this year’s group of 26 is full of authentic leaders, each with a story to tell.
Mentorship and programming have united women throughout the aftermarket, serving as a springboard for them to enter the industry and grow their roles into successful careers. They are sparking change and driving results, together.
Today’s honoree is Brenda Gelowitz, vice president, controller and IT manager at Auto Electric Service Ltd.
How your aftermarket career began: I worked as a senior manager at a major accounting firm as a CPA, and Auto Electric Service Ltd. was one of my audit and accounting clients. When a position became available as the controller, I was offered and accepted the position. I brought a new information technology- related skillset to the business, which is very likely why I was offered and accepted the opportunity to become one of the major shareholders of the company. I was the first female shareholder in our company’s history.
Industry support of women in the aftermarket: I am the only woman on the Information Technology Committee of the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance. Women are included on the other committees and on the Board of Directors, so it’s great recognition that diversity strengthens our group. The best support is inclusion and promotion within the businesses, buying group committees and associations in our industry.
How the aftermarket can do better to support women: Participate in high school and trade school career days making presentations that show that both men and women can work in our industry.
In tomorrow’s edition of aftermarketNews, we’ll feature Andrea Hull, human resources/benefits manager at Fisher Auto Parts, Inc.
